Significance This important community landmark originally featured a central courtyard with natural ventilation and lighting which was architecturally unique for its time

Fayette County Jail

Location Located at 104 South Main Street

Ownership City of La Grange
Date of Construction  Erected 1891
Significance  Fayette County used this facility for 102 years. It was replaced with the new Justice Center completed in 1985. The old jail now serves as the offices of the La Grange Chamber of Commerce.
Current Condition Good
Note Registered as a National Historic Place

U.S. Rural Mail Marker

Location N.E. Corner of the intersection of Colorado and Jefferson Streets, next to the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey Bench Mark "A-7".

Historic Dawson's Oak

This old oak deserves its position in Texas history as it marks the spot where, on at least five occasions in the last century, military service members of La Grange gathered to defend the principles on which the nation and the state were founded.

Old Masonic Lodge

Location Travis Street across from the Lauterstein Professional Building

Ownership The original owner was Henry Rhode. The current owners are the estate of John Schroeder and Mrs. Marguerite S. Willman.
Date of Construction Erected in1860
Significance The building once served as the site of the Annual Communications Meeting of the Texas Grand Lodge of Freemasons.

Old Railroad Station

Location Northeast corner of Washington and Colorado Streets, along side the railroad tracks.

SPJST Marker

Location The Main Street entrance to the courthouse.

Date of Construction Marker placed in 1983
Significance In 1896, five Czechoslovakian-Texans gathered in the district to establish a new fraternal benefit insurance society. The Slovanska' Podporuj' CI' Jednota Sta' TU Texas, more commonly known as the SPJST was founded.

Twin Block House Marker

Location 150 feet south of the intersection of South Main and Lafayette Streets, on the West side of Main Street.

Ownership Original owner was John Henry Moore (1800-1880). Now owned by the City of La Grange.
Date of Construction Erected in 1828
Significance It marks the area that was used for defense against the Indians and known as Moore's Fort in honor of its builder. La Grange was established on May 17, 1931, on this site.
Current Condition Good
