The dedication, enthusiasm, commitment, and hard work was
evident in the Main Street La Grange Application and January 1, 1996 La
Grange was officially a Main Street City. Texas' First Lady, Laura
Bush, Jan Bullock and many other state officials held a dedication
ceremony for La Grange as an official Main Street City. The La
Grange High School Band and as many citizens as could, made their way into
a standing room only ceremony in the newly restored District Courtroom of
the historic Fayette
County Courthouse.
The enthusiasm still
remains evident in La Grange. More than 30 buildings have been
restored and renovated. History has always been important to La
Grange. The City
of La Grange has extended the Main Street Program beyond the
initial three years which ended in 1998.
